Cosmetic Problems
Our skin is an important indicator of health and in some cases can greatly affect how we feel about ourselves and how we think others feel about us too. There are basic principals of skin care to keep our skin healthy and prevent premature ageing. The younger we are when we begin adhering to these principals the more likely we are to age gracefully with no or minimal wrinkles and damage.Trying to restore our skin at age 30+ after years of sun exposure and possibly other neglect can be expensive and painful. For some of us our skin conditions are inherited, it is in our genes; all the more reason to take care of our skin and bodies.
Problem: Acne Prone Face
Acne is a very common skin condition that affects most people at some stage of their life. Even though acne is a common problem, it can have serious effects on the way a person performs at school, work and acts socially. There are several different types of spots (pimples) including blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. A person with acne will often have a mixture of different types of spots, although one type may be more common.
Acne usually occurs on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders where there are large numbers of sebaceous glands. There are many factors that are linked to the cause of acne, though we do not know the exact cause. Those factors include the hormone increase in teenage years (this can cause the oil glands to plug up more often), hormone changes during pregnancy, Starting or stopping birth control pills, heredity (if your parents had acne, you might get it, too), some types of face creams and cosmetics and greasy makeup.
There are many forms for treatment available for acne, which makes it hard to know what is really effective. We have researched carefully and now have many years of successfully helping people with acne. The aim of treatment is to heal pimples, stop new pimples from forming, prevent scarring and help reduce the embarrassment of having acne. Treatments include active skin care, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and intense pulse light therapies.
We also have a large range of mineral makeup, which will not block your pores and can be used to help camouflage any imperfections that you may have. Did you know that mineral makeup is actually good for your skin?
At your initial consultation our highly qualified Para Medical Skin Aesthetician will look at your skin and design a treatment plan specifically for you. Our Para Medical Skin Aesthetician can also answer any questions you may have.

Problem: The Ageing Face
Ageing is a normal and inevitable part of life that affects us all. As we age, skin cell turnover slow from a normal cycle of 24-28 days to as many as 38 days. The result is a thicker epidermis (top layer of the skin) and a thinner dermis, which is where the elastic fibres and collagen are found. This shows a thinner, dryer skin with wrinkles and furrow, dry patches that can be crepe like and sag.
At Face Forward, we can't promise to turn back the clock, but we can help you to be savvy and slow it down! We can show you a new approach to skin care and how to choose products that are made with quality, active ingredients free from harsh chemicals, preservatives and perfumes. Make every day count in your anti-ageing combat.

Problem: The Sun Damaged Face
The warm golden cast of the sun is very alluring. And many people can't resist spending hours beneath its glow. But not all of the sun's rays are pleasing. Ultraviolet (UV) light, the invisible but intense rays of the sun, damages your skin. Some of those harmful effects - such as suntan or sunburn - are visible right away. But other skin changes, including liver spots or deep wrinkles, appear and worsen over time. These changes are known as Photo-ageing. The damage caused by sun exposure is the greatest factor that prematurely ages the skin. Look at areas of your body that have regular sun exposure and compare them with areas that are protected from sunlight. The difference is amazing!
Clearly protection from the sun is required though it is difficult when it is so intense as it is here in Perth. Protective clothing, and sunscreen are the most effective, along with avoiding being outside from 10am to 3pm when the sun is most intense. We advocate using a high protection sunscreen every day, even in winter to guard against the suns damaging rays. The use of mineral based makeup is also an added protection.
What about existing sun damage? Well there is help available here! At your consultation with our Para Medical Skin Aesthetician, your skin will be analysed for the extent of damage and a plan will be made that is tailored to your specific needs. Treatments include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, intense pulsed light (we call it Photogenesis) along with active skincare for you to use at home.
You will be given all the information about the treatments, including the benefits and risks, so you can make an informed decision about how to put your best face forward.

Problem: Loose Sagging Face
As we age, saggy skin becomes more and more of a problem. This process is due to the fact that our skin turn over slows down, less collagen is produced and so the skin on our face begins to loose elasticity and become more crepe like. This results in the development of lines, wrinkles, and eventually deep folds. Often times the process begins with delicate lines such as expression lines, brow lines, and mild crow's feet and later develops into more unsightly sagging in the entire face.
In the past face lifting surgery has been the only way to deal with or reverse this effect. Today however there are newer, non-surgical techniques available, such as Titan.
Face Forward offers Titan Procedure for the treatment of loose or lax skin. Titan utilizes a safe, infrared light to heat the deep dermis well below the skin's surface. During the procedure, the skin's surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece. With each Titan pulse, you will feel a brief heating sensation. The heating can cause immediate collagen contraction resulting in tighter skin. After the procedure, new collagen growth results in further tightening with the improvement of lax skin, folds and lines.
Patients have been successfully treated on many areas of the body where skin is lax. Loose skin along the jaw line, under the chin, the abdomen and upper arm have responded particularly well to the procedure. Since the Titan procedure is heating tissue under the skin's surface, patients of any skin type can be treated.
Most people require two or more treatments to achieve the required result. Immediately following the treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. Both should dissipate within a few hours.
Some people see results straight away. However, for most patients, the results are gradual over a three to six month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens.
